Description
The Manse, situated on Earlshall Road in Leuchars, is a two-story, three-window building constructed between 1805 and 1806. It is built of whin rubble with droved dressings and a plain margin to the door. Relieving arches are present above the ground floor openings, and the corners are defined by prominent quoins. A contemporary U-plan block of offices is also part of the original design. In 1837, George Just of Woodhaven added to the property. Later dormers were added, with a canted design. Notably, a leper window originally from the church has been incorporated into the garden wall. The manse holds special group value due to its proximity to the Romanesque portion of the parish church. Formerly listed as items 454, 457-60, and 463, some of these features are now demolished or reconstructed. Robert Balfour served as both the architect and contractor for the initial construction, as recorded in the Heritors' Records.
