Description
Cairney Lodge is an earlier 19th-century mansion house that has undergone later additions and alterations. Originally a two-storey, three-bay structure, it had its attic raised and features single-storey and attic bow-fronted wings added in the late 19th to early 20th century. A single, three-bay block was added to the east around 1900. The house is constructed of polished yellow ashlar.
On the south elevation, there is a glazed door with sidelights set in an advanced, pedimented bay, along with 12-pane sash windows that feature lying-pane glazing throughout. The façade includes broad angle pilaster strips, a parapet, and a pediment dating from the late 19th century. There are two dormers, tall corniced stacks, and a finialled mansard roof. The flanking wings are similarly detailed with three tall 16-pane sash windows. The block to the east is made of polished grey ashlar and has three bays on the south elevation, with a door to the right and a window to the left, both corniced and featuring a triglyph frieze. A Venetian window with a keystone is also present, along with a simple Venetian window on the east elevation, which includes clasping angle pilaster strips, an eaves band, and a parapet.
The west elevation features a segmental-headed tripartite door and two blocked segmental-headed arches to the left. There are various rendered additions to the north, and the roofs throughout are slated.
