Description
Hilton House, built around 1800, is a two-storey house with a single-storey flanking wing. The exterior is harled with painted margins. On the south elevation, there are three bays featuring a central door with a fanlight and a Roman Doric columned doorpiece, along with 12-pane sash windows. The house has a moulded eaves cornice, shouldered and corniced end stacks, and a slated piended and platform roof. The flanking single-storey wings include outer pedimented pavilions, with the right wing having a tripartite design. The left wing is largely hidden behind a flat-roofed modern glass sun-lounge. A late 19th-century two-storey rear wing features a canted oriel on the north gable, while the west wing has been retained as stabling, complete with a single segmental-headed carriage entrance to the courtyard. Inside the house, there are some contemporary chimneypieces, and the entrance hall showcases late 19th-century panelling. The staircase, also from the same period, has wooden balusters and a panelled ceiling above.
