Description
The Walled Garden with Summerhouse at Kilmaron Castle was likely designed by architect James Gillespie Graham and built around 1820. It features a rectangular garden enclosed by rubble-built walls, with the west elevation finished in stugged ashlar and topped with a crenellated parapet. The entrance is marked by panelled, chamfered, and castellated square gatepiers made of polished ashlar on plinths, which support later decorative wrought-iron gates.
Against the east wall stands a mid-19th century octagonal Gothick summerhouse. This structure has a square-headed door that is accessed by steps and flanked by pointed window openings. It also features a crenellated parapet with machicolations, a faceted roof covered in fish-scale slates, and an elaborate weather vane finial. Additionally, there is a disused ice house located to the north of the garden.
