Description
The building is a steading dated 1830, featuring classical details, with an extension added to the east in 1857. It is a U-plan, single-storey steading with lofts, constructed from whin rubble and adorned with droved yellow ashlar dressings. The symmetrical west front consists of seven bays, highlighted by slightly advanced and broader central and outer bays that have pedimented gables and rusticated quoins. The central bay includes a door and a round-headed loft opening that interrupts the pediment, with a datestone featuring a crest above it. At the apex, there is a corbelled cupola supported by four columns and topped with an obelisk. The outer bays contain single ground floor windows and blind elliptical openings in their pediments, along with apex stacks. The inner bays have doors and single windows on both the ground floor and loft levels.
The south elevation features ten bays and an additional large rectangular opening to the east, with seven arcaded, depressed-arched cart entrances and a single loft window above each bay. There is a droved ashlar square, battered stack from a former engine house to the east. The inner courtyard is rectangular and formed by the U-plan block, which is enclosed by a possibly earlier rubble-built block that has three parallel pantiled ranges. The roofs of the U-plan block were originally slated but have mostly been replaced with modern interlocking pantiles.
