Description
Tarvit Farm is a large single-storey and loft U-plan steading block dating from around 1800, featuring a central tower topped with a tall obelisk spire. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, polished on the north elevation and droved on the courtyard elevations. The symmetrical north elevation has 11 bays, with the central and outer bays being taller, broader, and more advanced. The central bay is pedimented and has a round-arched, keystoned pend flanked by blind windows at two levels. An octagonal base with pilasters supports a clock on two faces and the facetted spire, which serves as a dovecot with circular flight holes. The outer bays originally had semi-circular, traceried loft windows above, though one has been altered. The bays between the outer ones are arcaded at the ground floor with round-headed panels, and there are single windows at the ground floor and loft, some of which are blind. A cill course marks the first floor, and there are three raised lintels, along with a cornice and blocking course. The roof is slate-covered. The courtyard elevation features a variety of door and window openings and roof pitches, with a modern large central block replacing a partly demolished earlier building, which is not included in the listing. To the east, there is an open, circular, conical-roofed horsemill.
