Description
Drumnatorran Steading, dated 1828, is a large symmetrical U-plan steading with two storeys, although the central cross-arm of the U is built into the slope, making the long southeast loft facade appear as a single storey. Access to the lofts is from a lane that runs the full length of the frontage, featuring wide entrances to the lofts in the outer gabled bays, which are positioned off-centre.
The building is constructed of harl pointed rubble with roughly tooled ashlar dressings. It has symmetrical two-storey, seven-bay arms, with six bays facing the inner court. The first floor features alternate slit vents and square louvred windows on both elevations, maintaining a symmetrical pattern in the first floor frontage of the northwest-facing U-plan court. A datestone is located just below the eaves at the centre. The ground floor accommodates stable and byre spaces, all opening onto the court. Additionally, there is a later small single-storey, single-pitch heated henhouse that projects from the northwest gable. The roofs are covered with West Highland slate.
