Description
The Village Shop and Post Office in Strontian is an earlier 19th-century building that features a long, single-storey, seven-bay range situated on a sloping site. The structure has stores in a raised basement at the rear southwest (seaward) elevation. It is constructed from squared, pinned rubble with roughly tooled rubble dressings and contrasting painted margins.
The northeast elevation faces the road and includes three doors and four windows, with a two-bay dwelling at each outer end. There is a small raised ground floor window in the southeast return gable, along with some irregular raised ground floor fenestration at the rear. The southwest elevation features four segmental-headed stores, one of which is blocked with a later door inserted, and a secondary entrance that opens onto a walled yard and the shore. The building has ridge and end stacks, crowsteps, and a slate roof.
