Description
Drumdryan Quarry Powder Magazine is a former gunpowder magazine, likely built before 1852. It is a rare example of a steeply vaulted, Gothic arched structure with a rectangular plan. The building features dressed ashlar stone and an ashlar roof. The long side elevations are battered up to approximately doorhead height, with the vaulted roof supported by a full-width dripstone.
The eastern entrance elevation has a gabled design, with the remains of a metal-framed door at the center and a small slit ventilator above, featuring an iron grille. The western elevation is similar but does not have a door. The long, low side elevations are located below the dripstones, with the southern side having a small indirect ventilator opening near the ground, while the northern side has a large area of broken wall at the center.
Inside, as observed in 2010, there are rows of small holes that suggest the presence of possible wall-mounted racking, along with a single small ventilator opening in the southern wall.
