Description
Balmule Farm is a 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone later remodelling. It is a single storey and attic structure with three bays, built from large tooled stone blocks. The building features an ashlar band course below the eaves, a moulded ashlar eaves course, advanced ashlar surrounds for the openings on the south elevation, crowstepped gables, and beaked skewputts.
On the south elevation, there is a central door with a 2-pane fanlight above it, flanked by windows. The west elevation has a plain gable, while the north elevation includes a single window in each outer bay and two central doors. The east elevation features a door on the far left and a small central attic window. The farmhouse has plank doors and replacement windows, with a steep pitched roof covered in corrugated roofing and a coped stack at the west gable end.
Inside, there is a single room to the east with hooks in the ceiling. The west side contains two rooms, one of which has a fireplace with a grate in the southwest room and a panelled cupboard to the left of the fireplace. There is also a fireplace in the west gable wall of the northwest room. The central door on the south elevation leads into a small entrance hall, with central stairs that have panelled doors leading up to the attic directly opposite the front door, and a panelled door to the left. The single attic room is open to the roof and features a replacement collar-roof construction.
