Description
Moncrief House, located on High Street in Falkland, is a two-storey house with a dormerless attic, dating back to 1610 as indicated by the date inscribed on the lintel above the entrance. It is part of a terrace and features a four-bay design. The building is constructed from roughly squared and coursed stone, with moulded openings.
On the first floor, there is a window to the outer right with an inscribed panel below it, and a small blind attic window situated under the eaves of the first-floor window. The house has a thatched roof with a raised thatch ridge, crowstepped skews, and both ridge and end chimney stacks.
The inscribed panel reads: "AL PRAISE TO GOD AND/THANKIS TO THE MOST/EXCELLENT MONARCHE/GREAT BRITAINE OF WH/OSE PRINCELIE LIBERA/LITIE THIS IS MY POR/TIOVNE: DEO LAVS/ ESTO FIDYS/ADEST MERCES/NICOLL MONCRIEF."
