Description

Dial House is a 17th-century building, with an inscription dating it to 1698, which was enlarged and restored around 1920. It is constructed of coursed rubble and features a Cotswold stone roof. The house has two storeys and attics, with six bays; the two right-hand bays are a facsimile addition. The windows are leaded lattice casements with stone mullion and transom frames, and there is a continuous drip mould over the ground floor windows. The doorway has a moulded stone surround with a keystone and imposts, and there is an elliptical moulded stone window above it. The original door is still in place. The porch includes stone seats and is topped with a sundial and ball finial. The roof has a steep pitch with stone verges and three gabled dormers, along with three moulded stone chimneys, two of which are original, while the right-hand chimney is a replacement. Inside, the house retains a large inglenook fireplace in the central ground floor room.
