Description

Fox Farmhouse, formerly known as Manor Gardens, is a late 17th-century Cotswold cottage located to the north-west of The Manor. This detached building stands at 2½ storeys and is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof, featuring coped verges and ashlar chimneys. The south front has two gables with two-light windows, two three-light windows on the first floor, and one original four-light window with a king-mullion on the ground floor, all with cavetto moulding. The north-east front includes one and two-light windows, gabled attics, and three and four-light mullion windows with drips, along with irregular single-light windows near the gable ends, stair, and closet lights.

Inside, the ground floor south-east room features a large inglenook fireplace with a modern lintel and a spine beam with lozenge stops. On the first floor, the south-west room has a panelled screen, while the south-east room includes double (former) stair doors with panelled and enriched spandrels, a Tudor arch stone corner fireplace, a spine beam with enriched stops, and numerous period features. The farmhouse is illustrated in "Old Cottages, Farmhouses etc" by W G Davie and E G Dawber, published in 1905.
