St Leonards School Library, Queen Mary's House, 4 South Street, St Andrews

St Leonards School Library, located in Queen Mary's House on South Street in St Andrews, is a significant building that dates back to around 1523, with remodels occurring around 1590 and again in the 17th and 18th centuries. This three-storey structure features a six-window front made of 18th-century rubble, facing the street, and includes a Gibbs surround around the doorpiece. The building has an L-plan layout towards the garden, constructed with ashlar stone, and features an angle oriel on the wing. There is a four-storey crow-stepped stair tower positioned in the re-entrant angle, along with a fine mid-Georgian porch that has a pediment and an arched doorpiece with a rusticated architrave. The interior of the building is noteworthy. The building was restored by Reginald Fairlie in 1927, and there is an 18th-century grotto located in the garden.
