Description
St Leonard's Chapel, located on South Street in St Andrews, is a parish church dating back to around 1200. It was refounded as part of a college in 1512. The chapel is rectangular in shape, measuring 79 and three-quarter feet by 20 and a half feet internally, and it retains its very early 16th-century form with square-headed openings. Originally, it featured a tall west tower and spire, which were demolished in the 1760s. The west wall was moved east in 1853, and the chapel was re-roofed in 1910. It underwent restoration by Ian G Lindsay in 1952. Notable monuments within the chapel include those for Peter Bruce, who died in 1630, Robert Stewart, who died in 1586, and Robert Wilkie, who died in 1611.
