Description
Grove House is a mid-19th century Scottish Jacobean style L-plan building. It is constructed of coursed ashlar, except for the north side which is of rubble. The south front has a two-window advanced wing to the right, featuring a crow-stepped gable. The entrance is located in the re-entrant angle, with a tower above it, topped by a pyramidal bellcast roof and gabled attic dormers. A two-storey canted bay is situated to the left of the entrance, and extends upwards to form a bellcast, octagonal roof. The east front has a four-window, two-storey design with a crow-stepped gable and attic windows above the two northern bays. The north side consists of a set-back, two-storey lean-to wing, incorporating crow-stepped skews and its own entrance within a projecting gabled and crow-stepped porch. Rectangular corniced stacks rise from the roof, which is slated. The building is part of a wider group with Grove Terrace. It appears on the 1856 Ordnance Survey map.
