Description
Broomfield Cottage is a traditional single-storey cottage from the earlier to mid-19th century, specifically before 1854, with alterations made to the rear. It features three bays and is constructed from squared and coursed dark whinstone rubble, complemented by contrasting droved quoins, while the sides and rear are made of roughly coursed rubble. The eaves course adds to its architectural detail.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical with a deep-set timber door at the center, featuring a plate glass letterbox fanlight above it, flanked by windows on either side. On the east elevation, there is a window located off-centre to the right. The north elevation includes a harled extension at the center with a window to the left.
The cottage has timber sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, with the east window being a lying-pane. The roof is covered with clay pantiles, and there are coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes and cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with scroll skewputts. Surrounding the property are semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls.
