Description

St Colme House is a building from around the 1830s, likely incorporating parts of an earlier structure that appears on Knox's map from 1811. It has a courtyard layout that is open at the northeast, featuring a main two-storey block on the south and L-shaped two-storey wings extending to the north, including a long five-bay west range and a four-bay return range to the north. The exterior is constructed from random rubble with droved ashlar dressings and has slated piend roofs. Most of the windows are 12-pane sash and case.

The main south block has a three-bay south elevation, with a full-height canted window bay projecting at the centre. The ground floor window on the east side has been altered to serve as a patio door. The west elevation includes two return bays from the south main block, where the ground-floor bays are obscured by a single-storey flat-roofed classical porch addition, likely from the same period as the remodelling in the 1830s. This porch features paired clasping pilasters and a cornice, with the entrance now facing north instead of south. The south entrance has been sympathetically altered to a window with 12-pane sash and case glazing, while the north entrance retains its original relocated six-panel door and six-pane fanlight. There is also a single 12-pane sash and case window on the west side.

The north elevation of the north range has five irregular bays, with three on the right side symmetrically arranged around a full-height stilted semi-circular stair bay that projects. The courtyard elevations show irregular fenestration, with some openings altered. The southeast corner of the north range is chamfered at the ground level and corbelled to a square shape above at the first floor.
