Description

The gate piers and gateway to the north, along with North Lodge, at Crawford Priory date to circa 1900. The symmetrical, single-story, three-bay lodge is built of polished ashlar in a picturesque style. Modern, flat-roofed extensions were added to the east and west in 1956, designed by Walker and Pride, with further alterations made later. The north elevation features a blocked central door with a Norman arch, a hoodmould, and a cross finial. Nook-shafts support a chevron pattern moulding. Flanking the door are Gothic windows bordered by indented crosses. Octagonal angle piers are topped with pinnacles and connected by a corbelled and crenellated parapet. The roof is low-pitched and slate-covered with two corniced, square, droved ashlar stacks. The corniced, square, droved ashlar gate piers have flat, pyramidal caps. The castellated and pointed-headed gateway to the north is built of stugged ashlar.

The lodge was not shown on the 1893 Ordnance Survey map but appears on the 1912 edition. It is designed in a similar style to the earlier part of the Mansion House. A lodge formerly stood on the route of the Cupar-Pitlessie road and was demolished around the time this one was built; it's possible this lodge was re-sited and re-erected.
