Balwearie Flint Mill

Balwearie Flint Mill is a flint mill dated around 1756, which was converted to a flint mill circa 1840. It features a rectangular plan and is constructed from rubble flint, situated on ground that slopes sharply to the east.

The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a low wall with a boarded timber door at the center, topped by a catslide roof. The south elevation showcases the remains of a high-breast wheel, which has wooden spokes and iron rings, with an axle and buckets measuring 24 feet in diameter.

On the north elevation, there is a round-headed blocked door at the center and a datestone that reads ?175(6?)8?, along with a blocked window in the gable head. The east elevation, facing Tiel Burn, contains a window opening to the left and the remains of an iron structure lower down to the right.

Additionally, there is a vertical tapering circular harled flint-calcining kiln situated above a high rubble wall, featuring a round-arched, keystoned opening at ground level that serves as the firing floor. Access to the kiln is available from inside the cottage. To the south of the mill, there is a mill lade and a round-arched, voussoired bridge.
