Walled Garden, Carriden House, Bo'Ness

The Walled Garden at Carriden House in Bo'Ness dates from the later to late 18th century and features a large rectangular plan measuring approximately 120 meters by 70 meters. It includes a ruinous classical gardener's house, which has a datestone indicating it was built in 1909 on the outer face of the north elevation.

The walled garden is enclosed by a high sandstone rubble wall, which has an internal facing of red brick and an external brick surface on the south wall. The top of the wall is finished with flat ashlar coping and features ashlar dressings. There are arched openings on the north, south, and west elevations. The east elevation has square gatepiers that support a deteriorated iron gate. Evidence of glasshouses can be seen on the north wall, both internally and externally.

The gardener's house, located against the north wall, is a single-storey, three-bay structure that is now ruinous and overgrown. It is constructed of squared and snecked tooled sandstone and has a central doorway with a datestone from 1909 above it. To the right of the doorway, there are remains of a canted bay window, and at the far right, a bold projecting angled Tuscan column can be seen. The building is roofless, and there is also evidence of glasshouses to the north.
