Description
Thornliebank Woodlands Parish Church is a cruciform plan church built in 1891, with a hall added around the same time that abuts the eastern gable. The chancel was extended in 1893. The nave is oriented east-west and features paired aisles on the north and south sides. There is a lower apse with a vestry addition that is positioned at right angles to the north.
The church is constructed from squared, snecked, and stugged ashlar, with cream ashlar dressings, a base course, and chamfered reveals. It has pointed-arched windows with plate tracery and steep gables.
On the northeast elevation, there is a gabled porch to the outer right, featuring a pointed-arched doorway with a hoodmould. The aisles project at the center, each with paired windows at ground level and a round window with a trefoil in the gableheads. There is a later vestry addition adjoining to the right.
The southeast elevation mirrors the northeast with paired aisles projecting at the center. The west elevation has two three-light windows and a round window in the gablehead. The east elevation includes a two-bay chancel that adjoins the east gable of the nave, with coped ashlar skews, finials on the gables, and a stack to the east. The east window is dedicated to Alexander Crum from 1893, and there is a south memorial window for David Tod from 1912.
Adjoining at right angles is a single-storey hall, which features a gable that breaks the eaves to the east. The hall has a tripartite bellcote at the center of the roof ridge, topped with a conical roof and finial. The hall also has coped ashlar skews with angle skewputts and a coped stack.
