Unitas Buildings, 8 Main Street, Thornliebank

The Unitas Buildings, located at 8 Main Street, Thornliebank, are a 3-storey tenement built in 1906. They were erected by the Thornliebank Co-operative Society. The building’s facade curves to follow the street line, featuring a series of prominent wall-head gables, each two bays wide, with flue-bearing cross-walls. A single bay dormer-head is located on the left side. The construction is primarily polished yellow ashlar, with the southern flank also in polished yellow ashlar, the northern flank and rear in yellow brick. Windows are mainly bipartite, and those above ground level have curved cills with a central corbel; they are fitted with plate glass sashes. Shops are located at each corner. The southern corner bay is canted and features a wavy parapet. An attic room is topped with a leaded, bell-cast roof. Wall-head stacks are situated alongside the elevations. Slate roofs complete the building.
