Description
Unitas Buildings is a 3-storey tenement dating to 1906, erected by the Thornliebank Co-operative Society. The building has a curved facade that follows the street line and features a series of prominent wall-head gables, each two bays wide, with flue-bearing cross-walls. A single bay dormer-head is located on the left-hand side.
The building is constructed of polished yellow ashlar, with the exception of the north flank and rear, which are of yellow brick. Most of the windows are bipartite and, above ground level, have curved cills with a central corbel. They are fitted with plate glass sashes. Shops are located at each corner, and the south corner bay is canted with a wavy parapet. There is an octagonal attic room with a leaded, bell-cast roof, and wall-head stacks are situated alongside each elevation. The south flank is of polished ashlar, the north flank and rear are of yellow brick, and the roofs are slate covered. The statutory address is 2-12 Main Street, Thornliebank.
