Unitas Buildings, 2 Main Street, Thornliebank

Unitas Buildings is a 3-storey tenement dating from 1906. The building was erected by the Thornliebank Co-operative Society. The facade is curved to face the street. It features a series of prominent wall-head gables, each two bays in width, and incorporating flue-bearing cross-walls. A single bay dormer-head is located at the left. The building is constructed of polished yellow ashlar, with the exception of the north flank and rear which are of yellow brick; the south flank is also polished ashlar. Windows are mainly bipartite and, above ground level, have curved cills with a central corbel; they feature plate glass sashes. There are shops at each corner of the building, with a canted bay at the south corner featuring a wavy parapet. An attic room has a leaded, bell-cast roof, and wall-head stacks are situated alongside each elevation. The building is roofed with slate.
