Description

The Balgray Reservoir Draw-Off Tower, designed by engineer William Gale around 1853-1854, is an octagonal-plan tower that gently tapers and features a crenellated parapet. It has a doorway, windows, and a balcony located at the upper level, all made of sandstone ashlar. The tower includes a handrail from 1899 on a cantilevered stone balcony, a string course, and a corbelled parapet. The openings are chamfered and have hoodmoulds, with stone mullioned bipartite windows on three elevations, along with various openings below water level. Inside, the tower houses the operating machinery for three sluices. Additionally, there is a trussed footbridge from 1945 and an entrance gate from 1920.
