Description
The Town Hall, dated 1867 and opened in 1868, was designed by the architects Bellamy and Hardy from Lincoln. This building features two storeys constructed in ashlar stone and is topped with a fish-scale covered roof that includes a single circular dormer in an ornamental wooden frame with a finial. The wooden clock tower has pediments on all four sides, an octagonal bell-cote, and a weathervane. The side roofs are styled like a French chateau and are adorned with an iron frieze. A balustraded parapet with carved finials crowns the structure, and the side wings project forward. The eaves are decorated with a modillion cornice.
On the first floor, there are windows arranged in a 1-3-1 pattern with round arches; the outer windows feature foliated keystones and marble corner pilasters. Curved balconies are present at the three central windows. The ground floor includes three segmental-headed windows and two entrances, one leading to the yard, which is flanked by paired columns.
The Town Hall, along with four lamp standards and the Broad Stone, forms a cohesive group.
