Description
Nos 18 and 18A on The Square are an early 18th-century range of red brick buildings. The central ground floor features a segmental arch with a keystone and impost blocks. Above this arch, there is one window with a keystone, hung sashes with glazing bars, and a pediment that includes a blind semi-circular lunette in the tympanum. On either side of the central window, there are three additional windows, each with moulded stone keystones and straight brick arches. The building has a prominent heavy moulded eaves cornice. The three windows on the right have later added semi-circular iron balconies that are well-designed. Two of the ground floor windows have been modernized. Number 18 features the main entrance door, which is set within a projecting rectangular stone porch supported by Tuscan columns, complete with a dentil frieze and moulded cornice, accessed by four stone steps. Nos 18, 18A, 19, and 21 to 24, along with the building between Nos 24 and 25, and Nos 25 to 27, form a cohesive group.
