Description

18th century rectangular plan walled garden encased in

early 19th century exterior walls with service

buildings. Random rubble with ashlar coping.

WALLED GARDEN: high walled garden entered by gateway to

N end of W wall with fine wrought-iron gate bearing

entwined intials at centre. Brick lining to N wall.

Lean-to row of tools sheds and ancillary buildings,

early 19th century abutting on external side to N.

TOOL SHEDS: abutting high N wall of walled garden, and

facing kitchen garden. Slightly advanced bay to E raised

in gabled dormer with doorway; 16 bays to right with

similarly advanced doorway to W end and with one doorway

widened. 12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case

windows to W row of buildings with polygonal ashlar and

brick stacks at ridge. Grey slates and some asbestos

roofing.

KITCHEN GARDEN: low rubble walled enclosure to N within

outer walled area, overlooked to S by lean-to service

buildings. Outer N wall shaped by gateway with squat

ashlar pier, and with evidence of former hot-houses and

heating chambers on each side.

Low rubble outer wall to W.

GATEPIERS: squat drum gatepiers to outer W wall, leading

to gardener's house, cone capped with decorative vase

finials.
