Walled Garden, Broxmouth Parks

The Walled Garden at Broxmouth Parks is an 18th century rectangular plan garden surrounded by early 19th century exterior walls that include service buildings. The walls are constructed of random rubble with ashlar coping.

The garden features a high wall with a gateway at the northern end of the western wall, which has a fine wrought-iron gate adorned with entwined initials at its center. The northern wall is lined with brick.

On the external side of the northern wall, there is a lean-to row of tool sheds and ancillary buildings from the early 19th century. These tool sheds are positioned against the high northern wall of the garden and face the kitchen garden. One bay on the eastern side is slightly advanced and features a gabled dormer with a doorway. There are 16 bays to the right, with a similarly advanced doorway at the western end and one doorway that has been widened. The western row of buildings has sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, and the roofs are covered with grey slates and some asbestos. The buildings also have polygonal ashlar and brick stacks at the ridge.

The kitchen garden is enclosed by a low rubble wall to the north, within the outer walled area, and is overlooked to the south by the lean-to service buildings. The outer northern wall has a gateway flanked by squat ashlar piers and shows evidence of former hot-houses and heating chambers on each side.

Additionally, there are squat drum gatepiers on the outer western wall leading to the gardener's house, topped with decorative vase finials.
