Description
The former Gardener's Cottage at Edenhall Hospital, designed by George Washington Browne, dates from the later 19th century, with possible earlier 19th century elements. This is a single-storey and attic, three-bay cottage featuring a steeply pitched roof adorned with crowstepped and beaked skews. There are later single-storey brick lean-tos attached to each gable, with stepped ashlar coped walls enclosing the eastern side. The cottage has single stone dormers on each roof pitch and offset first-floor windows at the gables. The entrance includes a panelled and glazed door, and there are 12-pane sash and case windows, which were boarded up in 2014. A large lean-to greenhouse is present at the rear elevation. The roof is covered with grey slates and terracotta ridge tiles, and there are gable stacks, with the eastern stack projecting. The interior was not seen in 2014.
