Description

Pinkiehill Farmhouse is a quadrangular steading that includes a U-plan group of earlier 19th century structures, such as a cartshed, stable, and granary, along with a later 19th century engine house and stalk. The farmhouse closes the complex to the south. The buildings are constructed of rubble sandstone with droved ashlar dressings, featuring cill courses on the granary windows.

The north range, which is the cartshed, is a single-storey structure with a piend roof and five segmental cart arches facing the courtyard, although these are currently blocked as stable doors. The roof is finished with red pantiles and has a slate easing course.

The west range contains a two-storey stable and granary with seven irregular bays. It has a doorway at the center and another to the right on the courtyard side, with four bays featuring windows on each floor and an additional granary window to the right. The roof is piended to the north and gabled to the south, where it connects to a single-storey bay with pantiles that links the range to the farmhouse wing. The roof is covered with grey slates and has ashlar coped skews.

The east range is a two-storey granary with three pedestrian doorways and one machinery doorway on the courtyard side, along with three granary windows above. It is adjoined to the north by the cartshed range. The south gable end features a hayloft/granary door and a round-arched panel of flight-holes for a dovecot at the apex. This section also has grey slates and ashlar coped skews. The engine house is attached to the west range.

The stalk and engine house have a piend roof and project from the west range. The engine house is covered with purple slates, while the stalk is a tapering, square section made of red brick, featuring a neck band, cornice, and blocking course.
