Description

The Walled Garden at Dunglass House dates from the early 19th century and features a rectangular plan. It is enclosed by high rubble walls with ashlar coping, rounded at the corners, surrounding a garden area measuring 400 feet by 225 feet. To the north, there are lean-to service buildings that include top-hopper windows, boarded doors, one set of sliding doors, and a wallhead stack for the heating chamber. Circa 1925, traditional hot-houses were added against the interior of the north wall, likely designed by Mackenzie and Moncur. These hot-houses have ashlar base courses and a projecting canted centerpiece topped with a finial, along with cast-iron brackets and heating pipes.
