Luffness Kennels And Cottage, Luffness House

These mid-19th century kennels are part of the Luffness House estate. The single-storey kennel block has gabled outer bays and comprises three kennels, each with a doorway and a window to the left. The construction is of roughly squared and snecked dark whinstone, highlighted by contrasting droved ashlar dressings. A yard with sets is present, enclosed by a low ashlar coped rubble retaining wall with wrought and cast-iron railings featuring fleur-de-lys finials. There is a window in each end gable, although the window on the left is obscured by a lean-to. A doorway is located on the left return.

The rear elevation features a window to the right gable end and a doorway to the left, with a blank wall in between that shows evidence of previously blocked door openings. The gables are crowstepped, with grey slates and coped ashlar diamond stacks. The kennels are currently used as stores.

The kennels do not appear on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1854. They are of a similar design to a separate, listed cottage located nearby. The wrought-iron railings are in good condition.
