Ardshiel, Edinburgh Road, West Barns, Dunbar

Ardshiel is a mid 19th century, two-storey, four-bay terrace house located on Edinburgh Road in West Barns, Dunbar. The building features a carriage pend and appears to incorporate parts of a late 19th century predecessor. It is constructed from squared and snecked, stugged red sandstone with stugged ashlar dressings on the south side, while the sides and rear are made of harl-pointed rubble.

The south elevation, which faces the road, has three bays grouped closely in the center and left. It includes a doorway with a stone-bracketed canopy, a panelled door, and a plate glass fanlight. There are windows flanking the doorway at ground level, with the cill of the right-hand window likely retained from the earlier building. The outer bay to the right features a segmentally arched carriage pend with chamfered arrises and boarded doors, along with a first-floor window above.

At the rear, there is a forestair leading to a doorway that has been altered from what was formerly a stair window at the center. The eaves of Ardshiel are higher than those of the adjacent buildings, Red Tiles and West Barns Inn. The windows are sash and case with an 8-pane glazing pattern. The building has broad end stacks with brick repairs and ashlar coped skews, topped with grey slates.
