Description

Circa 1878. Single storey, rectangular plan engineering

works with projecting power house and stalk. Brick with

dressings of contrasting colour. 200' by 40'. Windows

under eaves.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: engine house advanced off-centre

to left, altered to form shop; brick base course with

cast-iron columns and glazing; doorway on N return.

8 bays flanking to right with doorway in penultimate

bay.

W ELEVATION: 18 windows, regularly spaced.

N AND S ELEVATIONS: 4 windows, spaced as above.

STALK: tapering square section brick shaft, with

contrasting quoins, neck band and square coping of 8

brick courses; 50' high, set in N pitch of power house.

Overlapping glazing between cast-iron uprights. 4-pane

sash and case windows to former office windows at N end.

Corrugated iron piend roofs. Weathervane.

INTERIOR: steam engine removed but boiler in situ

(1987). Unusual truss form to open roof. Painted brick

walls.
