Description
Early 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay classical house.
L-plan. Droved grey ashlar to W and N elevations with
raised base and 1st floor cill course, rusticated quoins
and moulded cornice. Harled rear and S gable.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: Ionic doorpiece with cornice and
stone steps. Panelled door with decorative fanlight.
Tall windows flanking at ground floor with smaller 1st
floor windows to each bay. Piend roofed dormer at
centre.
E ELEVATION: stair window at centre, flanked to left by
ground and 1st floor windows, and to right by later
19th century addition, advanced and with piend roof.
N GABLE: wide gable with 2 widely spaced windows, with
bipartite above to left and smaller window to right.
Central gable head window.
S GABLE: 2 widely grouped windows to each floor, with
central gable head window, as above. Modern green
house addition to left.
12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows, 9-pane
to 1st floor windows. Grey slates, polygonal, coped
gable head stacks to N elevation; harled gable head
stack to S and battered wallhead stack to E addition.
INTERIOR: tripartite vestibule screen with fanlight.
Winding stair.
GATEPIERS AND WALLS: polygonal ashlar gatepiers to N
with moulded coping adjoined to rubble walls. Pedestrian
gate to E of piers and blinded pointed arched opening to
E again. Arrowhead, cast-iron railings with gateway to W
of house by Biel Water.
