Description
This is an earlier to mid-19th century gardener’s house, composed of two interconnected gabled blocks with single-storey additions to the rear, built into the garden wall of Luffness House. The construction is primarily of random rubble with contrasting stugged ashlar dressings. An entrance on the south side is enclosed within a small walled courtyard, and there are windows on both the ground and first floors. To the east, there are two windows on the ground floor, with a loft door centrally located on the first floor. A single-storey, piend-roofed addition provides a further entrance on the north side. Round-arched windows are set into the rear garden walls. The windows are sash and case, with 12- and 8-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with red pantiles, and has a slate eaves course, coped skews, and stacks featuring decorative cans. The early 19th century walled garden and associated walls to the east, along with a dove cot, water tower, and garden walls, are listed separately as a group. The Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1854 provides a historical reference.
