Description

Ravelston, also formerly known as 3 Shillinhill, is a single-storey and attic cottage likely designed by J H Cooper before 1906. It is part of the former Humbie Children's Village, constructed in 1906 in an Arts and Crafts style to provide holiday accommodation for children with disabilities. The village included cottages, a hall, and a school, later becoming a residential care facility that closed in the 1990s before undergoing redevelopment into private housing in 2008.

The cottage is harled with a red tile roof. The south elevation features a projecting porch encompassing the southeast corner, with outbuildings extending from the east elevation. A projecting, angled window is located at the southwest corner. A further doorway is situated on the east elevation, and a fire escape leads to the attic within the north gable. The roof has flat sections with dormers facing east and west.
