Description

Castellau is an early 19th century, two-storey T-plan house located on Delisle Street in Dunbar. The building features a symmetrical three-bay classical front with a projecting full-height bowed bay on the west side. The exterior is constructed of droved ashlar with sharp arrises, while the rear and rear block are made of rubble, the latter having raised ashlar dressings. The roofs are slated and piended, with dormers at the rear, and the windows have a 12-pane glazing pattern.

The south entrance front includes a base course, cornice, and block course, with advanced end pilasters and a pedimented centre bay. The entrance features an Ionic doorpiece with an arched doorway, a tripartite and panelled door, and a semi-circular fanlight, accessed by a flight of steps with cast-iron rails.

On the west side of the main block, there is a single bay on the left and a three-bay bow on the right. The rear north block is two-storey with six-pane windows on the first floor. Both the east and west elevations have three bays, with additional windows on the first floor of the east elevation.

Inside, the house has a circular vestibule ceiling with spandrels, an arched fanlight above the double hall doorways, and a panelled dado with shutters. The interior also features fine plasterwork ceiling roses and detailed cornices.
