Description
Croft House, located at 3 Delisle Street in Dunbar, dates from around 1788 and is a symmetrical two-storey, five-bay classical house. It features recessed single-storey side blocks, with a two-bay roof to the east and a flat roof to the west. There is a projecting extension at the rear. The building is constructed from droved red sandstone ashlar, with rubble sides and rear that have ashlar dressings.
The entrance front has an Ionic doorpiece, a panelled door, and a decorative fanlight, all accessed by a flight of steps with a wrought-iron balustrade. The ground floor is rusticated, and the windows have voussoired lintels. Above the ground floor, there is a raised band course with a recessed centre, and a cill course at the first floor, which continues over the block to the east. The cornice features a blocking course and a raised, fluted centre block. The ground floor windows have 12-pane glazing, while the upper floor features plate glass sashes. The roof is piended slate with ashlar end stacks.
On the east block, there is a door to the left and a window to the right, with a steep pitched slate gable that includes a piended dormer at the north rear. The west block has a blind sash, and there is a continuous wall to the left with a segmental arched entrance.
