Description

The Rectory of St Anne's Church, located on Lawson Place in Dunbar, was designed by W J Walker Todd from Edinburgh in 1912. This symmetrical two-storey, five-bay villa features a three-bay single storey and attic block to the west. The building has a rubble base course, rendered walls, and stacks without margins but with raised cills. The stacks are topped with corbelled deep copes, and the roofs are covered with green slate and have a piended design.

The north entrance front showcases three central bays that are single storey, topped with a swept bell-cast roof. The full-height end pavilion bays also have piended roofs. The entrance features a moulded architrave surrounding the door, which has a lintel panel inscribed with a date and is topped with a conch canopy supported by volute brackets. Flanking windows are present in the outer bays, and there is a small piended dormer in the roof above, with a stack positioned below the ridge.

On the rear south front, there is a single storey with three-light canted windows that have arched recesses above the centre lights, featuring alternating raised voussoirs in the outer bays. The building has a consistent 12-paned glazing pattern throughout, with a tall sash window in the centre of the ground floor providing access to a terrace.

The east front includes an arched doorway on the north side, which has a semi-circular fanlight and a panelled door, flanked by a window to the south with alternate raised voussoirs.

Inside, the rectory features a red tiled vestibule and simple yet dignified decoration. Notably, there is a decorative Adamesque drawing room chimneypiece made of marble with a cast-iron back. The property is also marked by rounded rubble gatepiers.
