Rowan Cottage, Main Street, Athelstaneford

Rowan Cottage is a house dating from around 1800, with alterations made at a later date. It is a two-storey, three-bay building, with a harled exterior and painted margins around the windows. A modern, gabled porch has been added to the centre of the front, providing access, and it features a window on each return side. Windows are positioned on either side of the porch at ground level, with three windows at the first floor, set close under the eaves; a smaller window is located at the centre of the first floor. A rear entrance is situated to the left of the centre, flanked by windows, with further windows in the outer bays at the first floor. The windows are sash and case style, with a 12-pane glazing pattern.

The roof is covered in red pantiles, with harled chimney stacks and coped skewes featuring raised skewputts. To the east, the cottage adjoins 'Hilltop' (which is listed separately), and to the west is a row of single-storey cottages.
