Description
This is a late 18th century, single-story cottage with three bays. It is constructed of random rubble stone, with dressings renewed in concrete. The cottage has a door situated to the right of the centre, and sash windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern on either side. Openings at the rear have been enlarged. The roof is covered with red pantiles, and there is an ashlar-coped stack. The cottage is part of a group of buildings of B group value with 'White Cottage' adjoining it to the west. Historical records, including a plan of the Gilmerton Estate from 1784, and the Statistical Account of 1799, document the cottage.
