Description
This is a late 18th century building, originally a two-story cotter’s house of three irregular bays. It now incorporates a two-bay stable block and a loft to the south. The exterior is of random rubble construction, formerly harled, and now with pointed harl and painted margins.
The main entrance is on the east side, featuring an off-centre door with a diamond-glazed strip fanlight. Ground-floor windows flank the door, with three windows on the first floor. To the left, the stable block has a single ground-floor window and two first-floor windows. The three bays on the east elevation have some enlarged openings. A single-story, lean-to addition extends around the north gable, incorporating a door and a window at ground level. The first floor has three windows, and the stable has a door above a window. The windows are sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered in renewed red pantiles with straight skews, and there are harled stacks.
Inside, some original simple plasterwork, woodwork, and staircase remain. The stable has stalls and a stone floor.
The building was formerly harled and known as 'Green Acre'. It is situated on a hillside to the west, as shown in 19th century photographs. An old smithy to the east, now incorporated into the property and converted to residential use, is not included in the listing.
