White Cottage, Main Street, Athelstaneford

This is a late 18th century cottage, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is a single-story, four-bay building, incorporating one bay from an adjoining cottage to the left. The exterior is white-painted harl, with blue-painted window surrounds. A central door is accentuated by a doorpiece that breaks the eaves line. Canted bays with three lights flank the doorway, and there is a single light to the outer left. The canted windows have four-pane glazing, with plate glass in the lower sashes. Rear openings have been altered. The roof is covered with red pantiles, featuring straight skews and brick stacks. The interiors are not described in detail. The cottage is part of a B Group with "The Cottage" adjoining it to the east. Historical records, including a Gilmerton Estate Plan from 1784, refer to the area.
