Description

The Point Garry Hotel, located at 20 West Bay Road in North Berwick, is a mid-19th century building. It is a two-storey house with a cellar that originally had three bays but was expanded to five bays with the addition of outer recessed bays. In 1896, Peddie and Washington Browne made further alterations, including attic additions. The building features squared and snecked rubble, with coursing on the west front and ashlar dressings. The original house has rusticated quoins and raised margins on the west front, along with a simple eaves cornice.

On the west elevation, there is a pedimented doorway set within an advanced ashlar ground floor extension, which includes a cornice and blocking course, flanked by tripartite windows from 1896. The entrance has panelled double doors topped with a leaded and coloured glass fanlight. There are four canted dormers with central pediments, although they currently have poor modern aluminium windows.

The east elevation features various extensions and different window designs. The building has sash and case windows with plate glass, displaying either a four-pane or small-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with green slates and has harled stacks.

Inside, the hotel has been altered for use as licensed premises, but some original features remain, including a depressed panelled arch in the lounge.

Additionally, there is a low rubble parapet wall to the west with ashlar coping, and a boundary wall at the rear with semi-circular coping.
