Description
Creebridge House Hotel is a late 18th century house, with additions and alterations dating from the earlier to mid-19th century and further work in 1908 by Peddie and Washington Browne. More recent additions have been made to the rear. The house is constructed of rubble, painted on the north elevation, with granite dressings including some rough rybats and polished margins.
The south elevation displays the original late 18th century three-bay house to the left. A gabled stone porch centres the elevation, with a double-leaf door facing south and windows to the east and west. The fenestration is regular, with later timber mullioned, bipartite windows at ground floor. An earlier 19th century gable projects to the right, featuring windows at ground and first floors, with a blind window to the right at first floor. The first-floor windows are hoodmoulded.
The east elevation is a long, asymmetrical facade, with a taller two-bay block to the left and a lower five-bay (two and three-bay) section to the right. The two bays to the left have bull-faced dressings, with canted windows at ground floor and a bipartite window in an advanced panel at first floor in the left bay. A hoodmoulded bipartite window is at ground floor and a window at first floor in the right bay. The five bays to the right feature regularly disposed fenestration, with exceptions – a French window (which appears to have been enlarged from a window) in the central and outer-left bays, a later canted window in the bay to the left of centre, and a window in the bay to the right of centre at ground floor. Dormerheaded windows are present at first floor, with deep corbelled cills. A flat-coped rubble wall adjoins the right side.
The west elevation has a window to the left of centre at ground floor.
The north elevation shows three windows at first floor to the right and modern flat-roofed additions at ground floor. A window is visible at first floor to the gable of the east wing, alongside a two-storey lean-to addition to the right. A modern two-storey range links the east wing with a piended rubble former stable block to the northwest, enclosing a courtyard.
The original house has small, purple slates, while the wing and porch have graded grey slates. The original house features coped gablehead stacks, along with stacks to the taller block and north of the wing. A diamond ridge stack is on the east roof. Two modern flat-roofed dormer windows are on the south pitch, and a slate-hung gabled dormer window flanks the east pitch of the taller block. Octagonal cans are also present.
The interior includes later 19th century plasterwork and chimneypieces. Generally, 12-pane glazing is found in sash and case windows, with plate glass and four-pane glazing at ground floor to the south elevation. Red sandstone coped skews are present.
