Description
7 and 11 School Road in East Linton are a pair of late 19th-century, two-storey, four-bay colony houses with an attic. The entrances are located at ground level from School Road and at the rear, where brick forestairs lead to the first floor. The buildings are constructed from squared whinstone rubble with grey stugged ashlar dressings.
On the southeast elevation facing School Road, the doorways are positioned in the third bays from the ends and feature strip fanlights above. There are narrow windows flanking the doorways on the outside and wider windows in the other bays, a pattern that is repeated on the first floor. The attic includes four gabled dormers.
The northeast elevation has two-storey, gabled single bay projections at the outer bays, and a two-bay projection at the center with windows on both the ground and first floors. The brick forestairs, which have painted railings, lead to twin doors on the first floor, flanked by windows. There are doorways in the forestairs leading to the ground floor. The attic features flat-roofed, modern dormers.
The gable ends are blank, with outhouse additions and a porch on the east side. The roofs are covered with grey slates and have overhanging bracketed eaves with painted barge-boards. The ends are capped with ashlar coping and there are mutual stacks. A low rubble retaining wall lines the edge of School Road.
