Description

1, 2, 3 Duck Row in Jedburgh is a pair of semi-detached houses built in the late 19th century. These two-storey and attic houses have been converted into ground floor and two first floor flats, with the upper flats accessed from forestairs at the rear. The buildings are constructed of coursed red sandstone with raised ashlar dressings and feature stop-chamfered arrises. The piend-roofed canted dormer windows add to their character.

The east elevation presents a symmetrical five-bay front facing the bridge. The central bay features bipartite windows on both floors and a bipartite dormer above. The flanking bays have a glazed door with a rectangular fanlight at ground level and are blank above. The outer bays contain a single window on each floor, along with a single window dormer.

On the north elevation, there is a gablehead stack and widely spaced windows on the first floor. The west elevation shows an irregular two-storey and attic five-bay rear facing the road. At the center, there are forestairs leading to a projecting stair block that provides access to the upper flats. This section is rendered and has a lean-to roof with a bipartite dormer above. To the left, there are two bays with windows on each floor, while the right side features an inner bay with a door at ground level and a window above, plus an outer bay with windows on each floor and a pend to the far right. Number 2 Duck Row is attached to the right and is set slightly forward.

The south elevation includes a gablehead stack, with number 2 Duck Row adjoining on the left. There is an entrance to the pend at the center, with a window above it, and an additional window to the right on the first floor.

The windows throughout are 4-pane timber sash and case, and the roofs are covered with grey slates, featuring ashlar coped skews.
