Description

White Lodge, located on Kilmardinny Crescent in Bearsden, is a two-storey, three-bay villa built in 1933 by J R H MacDonald of J M Contractors Ltd, showcasing the International Style. The building features a stepped, flat roof and is smooth rendered with a whitewashed finish, complemented by a deep brick base and eaves course.

The northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical with a tall set-back bay at the center. This bay includes a broad porch with steps leading up to a deep-set plain-moulded doorpiece, a part-glazed timber door, and flanking paired narrow lights. Above, there is a tall center window flanked by smaller windows on the first floor. The lower flanking bays each feature wide-center tripartite windows on both floors, with 4-light windows wrapping around the outer angles.

On the southwest elevation, a full-height chimney breast projects at the center, breaking the eaves with a stepped stack. To the right, there are wide-center tripartite windows on each floor, along with another window at the outer left angle. A door leads to a single-storey sun porch at the outer right.

The southeast elevation, or rear, has a stepped design with a 7-light curved window in the semicircular center bay on each floor. There are additional windows on the left return, a narrow bay to the right featuring a narrow light at ground level and a window above, and a slightly advanced penultimate bay with a 4-light window wrapping around the left angle on each floor. There is also a further advanced service bay to the outer right with openings at ground level and a wide-center tripartite window on the first floor. The original sun porch is located at the outer left, featuring a French window and a tripartite window above.

The northeast elevation mirrors the bays on the southwest side, with a slightly lower advanced bay to the left that includes a window at ground level and two additional windows above, along with a garage door on the return to the right.

The villa retains its original multi-pane glazing patterns in the metal casement windows, although the porch has replacement glazing. The flat-coped rendered stacks feature some chimney cans.
